Wine and Dine with Gianni Buonomo Vintners

Wine lovers know that a glass of Sangiovese brings out the best in a meal – especially when it’s hyper local.

On Saturday, March 18, we’ll host a community-style dinner complete with a variety of savory wines crafted by the neighboring Gianni Buonomo Vintners.

Beginning at 6:30 p.m., wine enthusiasts will cozy up for conversation at a long community table on our enchanting patio – complete with a dazzling fire pit and twinkling string lights. Gianni Buonomo Vintners winemaker Keith Rolle will present the dinner guests with carefully selected glasses of wine alongside each course. Rolle will explain why he chose each wine to perfectly complement the local flavors of our handcrafted and homemade delectable dishes.

“We wanted Keith to bring an array of local wines for guests to discover and enjoy,” said Sandy Hanshaw, owner of The Wine Pub. “Not only will guests learn the secrets to wine pairing, but they’ll be introduced to an exquisite winery right in their own backyard.”

Located on Newport Avenue in the heart of Ocean Beach, Gianni Buonomo Vintners produces a limited production of sophisticated, food-friendly wines. Owner Rolle grows and harvests the grapes in eastern Washington then brings them down to San Diego to transform them into refined wines.

Tickets for Wine & Dine with Gianni Buonomo Vintners are $59 per person and include a five-course dinner complete with six wine tastings and gourmet food. Reservations are required and tickets are available for purchase below.

2016 Wine Crush & Tasting Party!

wine-tastingJoin us to learn about “The Crush” at our 2nd annual Wine Crush & Tasting Party!

The “crush” is the first step in turning grapes into wine! Since fall is “crush” season, we started our own crush party last year at The Wine Pub! Join us on Sunday, September 18, 2016 from 5-7 p.m., on the patio, as host Fernando of Lomita Winery will be doing a tasting but also talking to us about how crushing wines works. We will taste five wines (Discreto Blanco White Blend, Cursi Grenache Rose, Discreto Encanto Red Blend, Tinto de la Hacienda, Pagano) and have small appetizers. We will also offer glass/bottle sales in addition to the tasting! Tickets are $25, be sure to get yours today!

News and Notes From Sandy Hanshaw, Owner

Happy Spring! It’s another fun month here at the Pub. We just took our second trip down to Guadalupe Valley this weekend. Our last event was so popular, we are took over 20 people on this trip. I hope you’ll join us for our next trip in May. Click here to learn more about our May trip. Andy and I were just down in the Valle for a weekend trip, wine tasting, and we love the Valle!

I want to share a very special event we have coming up in May. The San Diego Bicycle Coalition is hosting a fundraiser at the Pub called, “An Evening With Bob Roll: Meet & Greet and Tour of California Race Preview!” on Friday, May 13th, 2016 at 6:00 p.m. As some of you know, The Tour of California – America’s premiere professional cycling race is coming to San Diego and we couldn’t be more excited! The race is set to start right here in San Diego on May 15th.

Bob is a former professional cyclist, author, and television sports commentator. Andy and I had a chance to meet Bob, pictured above, and he’s wonderful! This fundraising reception for the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition will feature Bob’s unique insights to racing and he’ll preview the big race for those in attendance. Guadalupe Valley Wine Tasting Tour – April 9, 2016

Join us on our next day trip to the Guadalupe Valley! We’ve made it easy for you, just show up at the Pub on April 9th and we’ll depart at 8:30 a.m. On our way to the Valle we’ll make a stop in Tijuana for some delicious street food. We will visit the following wineries: Adobe Guadalupe, La Lomita, and Torres Alegre y Familia.

We’ll travel with our own host, Fernando Gaxiola, who is not only friendly and hospitable but a wine connoisseur! You will spend time with some of the winemakers, learning about their history and tasting their amazing wines. Following our tastings we’ll have a true treat with dinner at Michelin star chef Drew Deckman’s restaurant.

Transportation, with a fast pass to reduce border wait time, Tijuana food stop, all tastings, and dinner at Deckman’s is included in the cost. Unfortunately, not included in the cost are drinks at dinner and driver tip. Wine for purchase is limited due to border travel, but I can place orders for you when we return to the US.

Cost: $175 per person, reservations and non-refundable prepayment required.

An Evening in Baja at The Wine Pub

A few weekends ago we hosted a wine tasting trip to Guadalupe Valley in Baja California, Mexico with several Wine Pub friends. We had so much fun – we’re bringing Baja to The Wine Pub! Hosted by wine connoisseur Fernando Gaxiola, from Baja Wine + Food, we will have 5 wine tastings with paired snacks.

We will taste Monte Xanic Chenin Blanc/Columbard, Monte Xanic Sauvignon Blanc, Paoloni Cabernet Blend, Adobe Guadalupe Gabriel (merlot blend) and Lomita Pagano (100% Grenache).
